CANNED

Hey guys,

I have started working with an arts magazine, CANNED; working to provide artists, curators, critics & the public with an informative & accessible cultural resource. The magazine is open to submissions on select subjects, directed by a theme of each issue. For instance, Issue 3 (being launched as part of the Late Shows in May) seeks to examine collaboration and exchange in an arts context. Take a look http://cannedmagazine.com/blog/ or alternatively "Like" this page to keep up to date with any CANNED news - http://www.facebook.com/CANNEDMAGAZINE

Of more immediate interest, CANNED have been close to friends at Pixel Palace at Tyneside Cinema and are looking for submissions for a radio broadcast.

"Pixel Palace are seeking submissions of new or existing works to host on basic.fm. Selected works will form part of a series of curated programmes (one-off and regular shows) that will appear on basic.fm from April 2012. Work can include sound art, spoken word, field recordings and artist interviews within the context of Broadcast Art, Sound & Independent Culture. Specifically within this CANNED Magazine are looking to interview and collaborate with artists and creative practitioners whose work or research deals directly with the ideas of Lost and Found."

 Submissions must include:
  •  Title and description of new or existing work(s) for basic.fm (100 words maximum) or where it is an expression of interest/ interview request for CANNED Magazine simply send an email with your name and a brief paragraph describing your practice.
  •  Examples of past work (please provide links to work as large email large media files cannot be accepted)
  • CV and contact information
The deadline for submissions is Monday 30th April 2012 at 5pm.

If interested send me an email and I shall send a PDF... which I don't know if it's possible to attach here.

Did someone say something about the future?

I've recently been reading Retromania: Pop Culture's Addiction to its Own Past by Simon Reynolds. A great book discussing nostalgia within many formats - mainly music, film and art. At discussion here is the impact of readily accessibile resources, the ontology of museums particularly in retrospect to punk, and of great interest to myself, the nature of recreation, using great examples of Marina Abromivic's Seven Easy Pieces and re-enactments of concerts utilising cover bands and at times actors.

Have a look-
