Into the Nimbus, Smilde Style

Came across these images of work by Berndnaut Smilde a Dutch artist who creates clouds inside rooms. These incredibly ephemeral objects are made by fog machines and a delicate control of the temperature and humidity of the space. The clouds only last for a few moments and are captured photographically to create these surreal and un-photo shopped images. Here's a link to a video on you tube showing the action as it happens.

Online Zine Callout

http://www.ideastap.com/Opportunities/Brief/c28616b2-7909-4fdf-a6fc-a05c010ee5e9#Overview

"
That’s right, we want you to curate and create your very own anthology – an online magazine/publication that we will fund and promote.
It can be on anything you like, as long as it’s chocked full of multi-disciplinary content by yourselves, your collaborators and IdeasTap members.
We're looking for a group (of three or more) from any discipline – illustration, animation, film, literature, photograph, anything – to take the helm. Your anthology could be a collection of poetry, an illustration zine, a photography journal, or all the above – whatever tickles your pickle.
The winning group will be given £2,000, support from the IdeasTap team and three months to design and produce an online readable PDF anthology. It can be as long as you like, but you must commit to whatever you propose in your application.
Here at IdeasTap, we strongly believe in rewarding hard work. So, you will be expected to use part of your prize money to pay other IdeasTap members for the content you commission from them. We give you the money, you spend the money and they earn the money: everybody’s happy.
As well as your online anthology, you will be expected to create some “making of” content, to live on your very own IdeasTap partner page, like this lovely one from the Brain Wash gang. We will upload it for you, but you will be expected to document the process, in video, images or text.

What we’re looking for:
• Applications from groups (minimum of three people, preferably more)
• An interesting, original theme with a clear content plan
• A defined strategy to involve IdeasTap members and find contributors
• Applicants who we believe can deliver and who will be able to effectively manage the budget"

.......interesting eh?

OLYMPIC OLYMPICS OLYMPICS!!!!!

In case you haven't heard London is going to be staging the 2012 Olympics and it'll be starting very soon. A variety of contemporary artists have been commissioned to design some posters for it and you can see a selection of them here

The article also makes reference to a similar venture/commissioning taking place in the Munich Olympics of 72 which had an array of artists posters too

Organiser/employer: Glasgow Independent Studio & Project Room

My art practice recently has turned into how can I physically integrate an arts practice with the community, this was the inspiration for acquiring the empty shop on Falkirk High Street, in which the space isn't only used for exhibiting individual works of art but the building as a whole is indeed a project. The next thing I am working on is how to spread the word of this gallery space by doing project out with the building itself, for example restoration or gardening. I have been looking at this and I'm sure I have heard others say that they are interested in doing something similar so I thought I'd share this with you all if you haven't heard of it already.

http://www.landshare.net/about/

The area that is available in Falkirk, is about as far away from me than Glasgow is on a train so I would be happy to work on a plot of land there, if people are interested in finding out more about landshare.
